The public radio is seeking two (2) senior Data Engineers for the continuous development, maintenance and mitigation of the operating data platform and the development of new data products in the Snowflake environment. The aim is to start work by 8 / 2026 at the latest. The task requires strong technical expertise, especially in data integration, data storage, data modelling, data production, and the ability to function and share knowledge in the agile team. Data engineers are required to have experience of the platform's best practices, data security and data protection, as well as the ability to develop data solutions in business and business terms. * * Background and objectives of procurement * * The break in media use from traditional media to digital and personal content consumption has changed significantly The nature of the data collected and utilized by Yle. Attention is shifted from traditional public demography to real-time media usage data. The management of complex and versatile data requires modern platforms, strong data engineering skills, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence solutions for example predictive models and personalization. The operating model and technologies of the Great Data Service Area have been reformed in recent years, and now we are seeking senior data engineers to ensure further development and maintenance of the operational data platform, but also to improve our capacity to respond to future challenges and opportunities. The operating environment, both technologies and media, is constantly evolving. We want to ensure that the modern data platform works effectively using new technological solutions and that data from operational systems are collected, processed, stored, produced and distributed in accordance with best practices. The aim of the acquisition is to enhance the technical development of the platform and the management of the data and to improve the design and optimisation of the data, including for the AI and, above all, to ensure sufficient capacity to meet business needs. * * Tasks and competence * * The team of operational data usually processes data related to internal and external costs, design and publication of content and production. A wide range of users and different business areas require close cooperation from the team on content units, ICT and other centralised and decentralised data
- and product teams. Changes in processes and systems contribute to the development of operational data in the repository and in the products and services built on it, but the data is also constantly reviewed from new perspectives and with new tools. Data Engineer is important to have proven, strong experience with Snowflake and its best practices, ELT / ETL tools, SQL
- and Python languages and curiosity to explore new opportunities. In addition, knowledge of Terraform, Matillion, some AI tool and some Bi tool can be seen as an advantage, as all these tools are used by the team in their work. Data engineers must manage data design, development
- in addition to the requirements relating to data protection, security and compliance, and in the future the possibilities, conditions and limitations of AI. The key is the ability to manage entities, the ability to absorb new skills and knowledge, the ability to cooperate with other teams and the ability to communicate and argue clearly and listening to others. In addition, self-directed, pro-active and interactive grip and interest in the media sector are required, as the strength of the team is also the knowledge of the data. Tasks at the beginning of the mandate
- Participation in continuous data development in the Yle data service area
- Working as part of an operational data team of approximately six

- Definition, implementation and maintenance of data integrations and shared data products
- Data modelling, ensuring data quality and documentation * * Working methods * * The high need for data for engineers is five days a week, 7.5 hours a day. At the beginning of the assignment, the team of operational data, including selected data engineers, will work at Yle's premises in Pasila for 11.2 days a week. If necessary, data engineers undertake to work I'm at the premises several days a week. The working language is Finnish, but English is also used with system suppliers, for example. All operational data data from engineers are required to have a basic security clearance and a personal NDA. The team of operational data is self-guided according to the agile methods they choose. For example, for the time being, the days start on a daily basis, the meetings are fascinated in circular shifts and work is planned for three weeks at a time. The freedom to choose the methods of operation brings with it the opportunity to develop them, so the ability, experience and desire to improve the team's performance are the desired features.
